Solbari’s Australian Summer Launch

Last week, we officially welcomed the Australian summer with Solbari’s first-ever Summer Launch event. Set against the backdrop of Melbourne’s iconic St Kilda Beach at Donovans Restaurant, the afternoon brought together dermatologists, skin health advocates, and friends of the brand for a celebration of education, innovation, and community.

A standout moment of the day was the introduction of our Expert Medical Panel. Our Q&A featured leading dermatologists, who shared invaluable insights on skin cancer prevention, UV protection, the role UPF clothing plays in daily sun safety, and the unique challenges we face here in Australia:

“Our UV index is often really really high… Our indices will often be 12 to 14, whereas in the Northern Hemisphere it’s generally about 6 to 8... which means more intense sun, more burning and more silent damage that’s occurring on an ongoing basis.” - A/Prof Michelle Rodrigues

The panel also discussed some common myths around sun damage and pigmented skin:

"Brown skin, or richly pigmented skin absolutely can burn, it's just that you need a bit more UVB to get there... Skin cancer can absolutely occur in people who can tan richly, or who have pigmented skin." - A/Prof Michelle Rodrigues

Our experts also highlighted some key advice for people managing skin conditions such as eczema and rosacea:

"One of the things I often tell my patients if they have a very impaired skin barrier is to not wear sunscreen, but to use a physical barrier like clothing or a hat until their skin barrier is back in tact." - Dr Alice Rudd

Following the Q&A, guests were invited to explore our latest UPF 50+ arrivals featuring lightweight, breathable designs crafted for comfort, style, and performance in the summer sun. Crowd favourites included our new Provence Wide Brim Sun Hat, crafted from 100% natural raffia and offered in three beautiful colourways, along with our new Men's Long Sleeve Hooded Top and the newest additions to the Keep Your Cool collection and our signature best sellers.

A heartfelt thank you to our incredible panellists and all our guests for making this event so special. Your passion and support continue to drive our mission to create a world without skin cancer and empower people to live a sun smart life.

As the summer sun settles in, we invite you to discover our UPF 50+ range and join us in championing sun protection every day.
